May in Monageer

May has been a very busy month in Monageer National School. It began with Ms. Nolan and Ms Owen going to visit Şaşoğlu Primary School in Kayseri. They had a great time. They brought back lots of photos. The weather was warm but sometimes it rained. They told us everyone made them very welcome.

Our school is a Green School and this month we were awarded our third Green Flag. This flag was awarded for our work on Water Conservation.

The award ceremony was in Croke Park in Dublin

The next flag will be for sustainable travel. Will we be walking to school?
This month some of our pupils took part in the Schools County Sports. Pupils from First to Sixth Classes travelled to Bree. Mairead Fortune in Sixth Class won a gold medal in the 400m sprint and Matilda Dunne Cronin won silver for the High Jump

Also on the sporting field Karl and Noel Rowsome, David Mernagh and Ronan Donohoe won medals in the Wexford Junior Golf  Tournament.

Grainne McCabe won the Wexford Camogie Skills Competition and qualified to take part in further competition in Croke Park

Pupils in Second Class made their First Holy Communion on Saturday 19th May

Third and Fourth Class took part in a hurling Blitz on Tuesday. They had great fun.

Some were tired.
Some had lots of energy
Some rest in different positions
Out for the count!
Some managed to stay on their feet.
Some thought it would be better to stand on their heads.
Tracey came into school to plant the window boxes with the Junior and Senior Infants.

Fifth and Sixth Classes went to visit the Fr Murphy Centre in Boolavogue last week. This is a restored farmhouse from the 18th Century

Taking time to study.
Finally, time to play.
