Infant children
On the 20 th January in Poland we celebrate the Grandma’s and Granddad’s Day. This day grandchildren usually give their grandparents hand-made presents, small gifts and cards. In our school the youngest children prepared something special for this occasion. There was a school play, hand-made cookies, a lot of poems and songs for beloved grandparents who were invited to school that day.

On Art lesson we made paper snowmen and winter’s pictures. We used small pieces of fabric and glue.

Class IV-VI
On Science lesson we studied the weather : the temperature, the strength of the wind and its direction etc. That day was one of the coldest day during this year’s winter-the temperature reached -24*C during the day! Everything around was icy!

We had a lecture with a forestry’s worker who told us how to help animals survive this frosty winter. We also learned a lot about the nature reserves in Poland and animals which live in our country. It was really interesting.

On 9 th February there was a school carnival party. The youngest pupils had a fancy-dress party, and there was a competition for the most original costume.  Not only supermen, batmen, Indians, Princesses, fairies but also a lot of others cartoon characters came alive this evening. The older pupils had a disco party and they were dancing for songs long hours. There was also a short concert of school band, in which our mates from higher classes play and the soloist of this band is our PE teacher! It was really great! We all had a good time.

And now we are having two-week-winter holiday. Hooray!!!!

Time for helping

Christmas is time when we more often help other people. Every year before Christmas our school organizes some charity actions like ‘You can also become  Santa Claus’ or ‘The mountain of pennies’. The main idea of these actions is to collect things such as: toys, school items, sweets, clothes and money which are given to kids living in orphanages or kids in need.
This year pupils in our school were really generous and we managed to collect a lot of things and quite big amount of money.

On 8 th January we had a day called ‘Big orchestra of Christmas helping’. This day in every village, small town and big city in Poland people organize concerts, shows and other events during which thousands of volunteers collect money in boxes specially prepared for this purpose.
Obviously we also joined this action. We organized a concert of our school orchestra in a  local church. It was 20 th  final of  ‘national playing of Big Orchestra ‘This year the Polish managed collect over 10 million euros! Collected money goes into the kitty and are donated for hospitals, to be used for buying modern expensive medical equipment especially for children

Owls visit to Manchester Cathedral

Our visit to Manchester Cathedral
by Owls class
In Owls class, we have been looking at features of Manchester Cathedral as part of our topic work in school. Last Wednesday, we visited the cathedral. During the guided tour, we saw beautiful stained glass windows like the one in the photograph below.
This window is dedicated to St George, the patron saint of England. Can you see the red cross and the tail of the dragon towards the bottom left-hand side?
The next photograph shows the 'Fire Window' in the 'Regimental Chapel' which marks where a German bomb hit the cathedral in 1940.
There are some lovely 'misericords' or 'mercy seats' in the choir stalls. This meant that when the choristers were tired of standing up, they could perch on the little wooden seat and still look like they were standing! Underneath the seats are some carvings of flowers, animals and many other things that tell us a little bit about life in medieval times.
The architectural style of the cathedral is 'Perpendicular Gothic'. The next photograph shows a scale model of the building.
Lastly, we had fun dressing up in the Bishop's clothes!
